Every guide on Top10Great is written to answer one question: which product should you actually buy for your car, and why? Here is how we get to that answer.
1. We start with the job, not the product
A floor jack for a lifted 4Runner and a floor jack for a sedan are different purchases. We begin with the vehicle and the task, such as lift height, connector type, or engine size, and only shortlist products that fit it.
2. We check the specs against the vehicle
We compare manufacturer specifications (capacity, voltage, protocol support, dimensions) with what your vehicle needs. If a product doesn’t clearly support a model or generation, we say so.
3. We read the complaints, not just the stars
Star ratings hide patterns. We read verified owner reviews looking for repeated failures, such as units dying after a winter, inaccurate gauges, or missing parking-mode features, and we include the honest downsides in every review.
4. We add hands-on experience where we have it
Where we’ve used a tool on our own vehicles, including a Lexus RX350 we maintain at home, we tell you what we found. Where we haven’t, we don’t pretend we have.
5. We keep guides up to date
Products get discontinued and replaced. We revisit our guides regularly, update picks and prices, and show the last-updated date on each article.
